Fair trade and organic products

Fair trade

The City of Tampere is a city of fair trade. Tampereen Voimia offers responsibly produced fair trade coffee and tea at its staff restaurants, upper secondary schools and Tredu units, and the cafés also have fair-trade sugar and honey on offer. Most Tampereen Voimia cafés also sell other fair-trade products, such as chocolate.

Fair trade bananas are also served at comprehensive schools and as snacks at daycare centres.

All Tampereen Voimia kitchens have been awarded a Steps to Organic diploma. We have made significant investments in the regular use of organic products and in promoting sustainable development in our operations. Greater use of organic ingredients is also what our customers want.

Tampereen Voimia takes steps to be more organic

All Tampereen Voimia kitchens have been awarded a Steps to Organic diploma. We have made significant investments in the regular use of organic products and in promoting sustainable development in all our operations. Greater use of organic ingredients is also what our customers want.

The Steps to Organic programme is designed to increase professional kitchens’ use of organic products and to raise awareness of organic food. It is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and implemented by EkoCentria. Tampereen Voimia was first awarded an organic food diploma in 2011 for adding organic dishes to its menu. Only 1% of professional kitchens in Finland have been granted this distinction.

All Tampereen Voimia units use organic products. For example, all cereal flakes we use are organically produced. Tampereen Voimia service-centre canteens, homes for the elderly, hospitals and daycare centres are on step two of the Steps to Organic programme, and all other units are on step one.
